4 Tried & Tested Tips For Delivering A Mind-Blowing Presentation.
Just another day at college, you are in middle of a lecture trying to figure out things and match your teacher’s sick flow, who just won’t stop bombarding extra-terrestrial concepts that have got you all overwhelmed!
Eventually you begin to question yourself , “Why,Why am I here?”
To make things worse ,
Your teacher points at you and says “You Mister,You are going to give a presentation on this topic tomorrow!”.
These words hit your ears like a bullet and travel all the way up-to your stomach awakening the butterflies.
I’m pretty sure you’ve been through this! Well,I’ve been there too!
Out of the many experiences that I’ve had during my presentation stints, here are 4 tried and tested ways that’ll help you deliver a mind-blowing presentation.
1.Begin with a captivating opener:
Well, they say “First Impression Is The Last Impression” as much as I hate to relate to this quote ,In case of presentations it does turn out to be quite true.
This is mostly because the audience is hungry ,hungry for something new ,something quirky ,something they can take home and tell their peers about.
I mean for all these years most of you must’ve started your presentation by introducing your topic followed by your name.
Well, this is how every other speaker in the room might start.
BUT in your case, you are going to start your presentation with an awesome quote or a fact .
Let me tell you why!
So one fine day,
I was asked to give a presentation on air-pollution ,I started my presentation by asking the audience,
“How many of you know, breathing in Mumbai(A city in India) is equivalent to smoking 2.5 packs of cigarettes a day?”
Immediately I had the attention of every single person sitting in the classroom.
You see when you are putting out informative content ,your audience is all ears. The audience is always up for something unconventional.
2.Mistakes?,We are here to make them! :“A person who never made a mistake, never tried anything new”-Einstein .
You are all nervous and you end up mispronouncing a word ,don’t feel guilty about it,even the most experienced trainers, educators, and salespeople make mistakes when they present.
That’s OK! In fact it’s perfectly fine.
The audience may not even notice, even if they do they’ll probably laugh!
What do you do?
You too, laugh it off. It’ll definitely loosen you up.
Now,if you are bringing up numbers in your presentation and you are not quite sure about the exact figure or the exact date, try not to make up things.
There are chances that some wizard is sitting in your audience and he might end up correcting you in the middle of the presentation.
You don’t want to lose the tempo.Rather, just state the things that you are completely sure about.
Look them in the eye :
Okay this one right here might sound really tough but there is an easier way out of it ,so what you are going to do is, you are going to try your best to take the high road and look each person in the eye, at least for a few seconds.
Repeat this over and over, once they get used to you, you’ll develop a certain bond with your audience.
I’ve seen people presenting with their eyesights on the ground or somewhere up staring at the ceiling fan. This, is a huge no no!
The audience doesn’t feel connected at all,you are not here to give your presentation to the ceiling-fan or the ground ,Right?
Look towards them in a general direction .
Let’s say, your auditorium is of a semi-circular shape, accordingly your visions radius should trace the entire semi-circle,this would ensure that every member of the audience feels important and no one would have the chance to say ,”hey, you did not look me in the eye!”
The most obvious way to conceptualize an idea is to visualize it,see it in your mind’s eye as vividly as if it were alive.
Before you begin the presentation close your eyes and picture yourself presenting before the live audience ,go through every section step by step .
Your naked eye shows you only the things that already exist in the world. In a similar way, that which you can visualize in your mind’s eye already exists in the invisible realms of your mind.
For instance, for the very cellphone to come into existence ,somebody must have visualized it’s shape, size, attributes in their mind’s eye.
Similarly you are going to visualize yourself giving an awesome presentation before getting on that podium.
Remember:You are in full control of your presentation.Take the time to rehearse and practice until your inner-voice tells you, that you are all ready! Relax.Learn to think of your presentation as an opportunity for sharing knowledge.
Learn to enjoy the process.I guarantee you! If you follow the above listed tips nobody can stop you from becoming a good presenter.
